A New Firecracker

After many incredible years of sailing our wonderful Saga 43 Firecracker, we felt a new direction in our lives was approaching.  We were fortunate to sell Firecracker to a seasoned sailor who appears to appreciate her as much as we did.  Considering the purchase of a power boat we took a road trip from Connecticut, down the coast, to Florida to look at a number of trawler type boats.  Boat #1 was too big,  boat #2 was just not right, and boat #3 made us  wonder just what in the world were we thinking.  These boats were far more complex than our Saga 43 and none were in as good as condition.  This just didn’t make any sense.

We made a stop in St Augustine to visit Ginnie’s brother and family and while there we both came to the conclusion that having a house and smaller boat in Florida suited our lifestyle better than a larger power boat.  Our house hunting brought us to Stuart, FL where we bought a house on the Manatee Pocket.  There is a small marina that is part of our home owners association where we were able to secure a slip with the purchase of our home.

Our next task was to find a new boat to replace Firecracker.  After long searches on Yacht World and numerous other sites we found that a Tiara 3100 was going to be the perfect “Florida” boat for us.  Small enough to tuck into one of the many waterfront restaurants in the area and large enough to hop over to the Bahamas.  And speaking of “hopping” we can leave our dock in Stuart and be in West End, Grand Bahama in about 3 hours!
